Morgan and Gary’s elopement at Eilean Donan Castle was a truly unique and magical experience. Located on an island where three lochs meet, the castle provided a picturesque and stunning backdrop for the couple’s special day.

The Historic Beauty of Eilean Donan Castle

Eilean Donan Castle has a rich history dating back to the 13th century and has been carefully restored over the years. The castle’s interiors are filled with historic artefacts and stunning architecture, making it one of Scotland’s most visited attractions.

A Touch of Scottish Heritage

Morgan and Gary’s Scottish heritage was an important part of their elopement. The original trip was planned prior to their arrival in Scotland and was planned as a 40th birthday surprise present for Gary. During that time, we became engaged, and we decided to elope while we were in Scotland!

Gary wore a traditional kilt in the MacKenzie tartan made by 21st Century Kilts and Morgan wore a matching shawl that was finalised and delivered just in the knick of time!  It was a beautiful tribute to their family history and added an extra layer of meaning to the occasion.

Including Loved Ones from Afar

Despite eloping, Morgan and Gary were able to include their family and friends back in America through a Zoom call during the ceremony helped by the Eilean Donan Castle staff. It was a wonderful way to share their special day with loved ones who weren’t there in person.

A Magical and Unforgettable Day

After their intimate ceremony at Eilean Donan Castle, Morgan and Gary continued their celebration with a romantic dinner at The Clachan in Dornie. The cozy bar & restaurant, located just a short walk from the castle, offered delicious Scottish cuisine and a warm atmosphere. As they enjoyed their meal, Morgan and Gary reflected on the special moments of their wedding day . The dinner at The Clachan was the perfect way to cap off their unforgettable elopement and start their married life together.

what advice would you give to other couples considering Eilean Donan Castle and the Scottish Highlands for their wedding/elopement?

Our combined advice would be to choose something that is unique and special to you both as a couple, to make it about just yourselves in your own way. We chose an elopement because we felt this suited our style and our marriage the best as we wanted to focus on each other for this particular celebration. It is the one time in your life, possibly, where you have the opportunity to celebrate each other and your marriage and you should make it about exactly that. Everyone went above and beyond what our expectations were and it took a village to make our celebration come true! We would advise other couples to remember this in planning their own unique event, to be grateful for every contribution it took to bring you both together.
We also advise anyone planning an event at the castle, to hire Yvonne as their photographer and to let her lead the charge, she is an amazing guide and leader!

testimonial

Yvonne is incredible! In fact, we relied on her so much for guidance about the castle and ceremony. She knows so many nooks and crannies in photographing the castle. She lives near to the castle and knows the staff very well. We like being different in terms of what most people think is normal. She talked to us about what she knows looks good and what she would like to do that she had always wanted to shoot. She was so stoked that we let her suggest where she would like to shoot.
